The Tale of Naming (renaming?) Characters
What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet. -Shakespeare
It's just weird. I've written fan fiction for so long for one particular fandom that it's so hard to imagine changing the names. Technically, by personality and character traits, the characters are exactly who they are even if I change their names. But yet ... if feels so strange to call them by another name.
Unfortunately, I don't have a choice. In order to publish the novel, I must change the names of my main characters. For those who never read the original, they would never know the difference. And for some that have read the original, they learn to adapt and embrace the new names.
In Long After I Left You, the characters of XZ and WYB were changed to Zachery (Zack) and Daxton(Dax). At first, I was unsure, but then the names grew on me as I edited the story for publishing.
Now, I will be publishing Synergism and once again have to go through the chore of renaming my main characters. I have found a name for WYB that I like, but am having trouble with XZ's name. My wonderful readers have helped narrow it down to two names: Aidan Wei and Kian Wei.
So far, one name is more popular than the other, but I would love to have move votes before I decide on a winner.
Here is your chance to name a character in a book: Do you prefer Aidan Wei or Kian Wei?
And for those waiting for the next update on Vermillion ... soon... very soon. Once I figure out this renaming fiasco, I will post a chapter.
Looking forward to seeing which name you choose!
